Have you ever felt like you keep cycling through the same painful patterns, the same arguments, the same blocks, the same heavy weight you cannot seem to set down? There are moments in life when no amount of positive thinking or willpower touches the deeper root of what holds us back. In my years as a Reiki Master Teacher, one of the most consistently powerful tools I have seen transform students, gently, quietly, sometimes dramatically, is the Violet Flame.
This guide is my complete introduction to it. Whether you have never meditated a day in your life or you have a rich spiritual practice already, the Violet Flame will meet you exactly where you are. By the end of this post, you will know what it is, why it works, and how to begin, today, with nothing but your intention.
What is the Violet Flame?
The Violet Flame is a high-frequency spiritual energy, visualised as a living, breathing flame in shades of violet and purple, that has the unique capacity to transmute energy rather than simply suppress or bypass it. In metaphysical traditions connected to the Ascended Masters teachings, it represents the Seventh Ray of spiritual light: the ray of transmutation, freedom, mercy, and alchemy.
To transmute means to change the fundamental nature of something. Where other practices might help you feel better temporarily, the Violet Flame works at the energetic root, converting dense, negative, or stuck energy into light. Think of it the way a compost heap converts decay into rich soil. Nothing is wasted. Everything is transformed.
The Violet Flame is most closely associated with Saint Germain, the Ascended Master known as the Chohan (Lord) of the Seventh Ray and the Master of the Aquarian Age. Saint Germain teaches that the Violet Flame is not a tool reserved for initiates or advanced practitioners, it is humanity’s birthright. He has worked for centuries to make this gift accessible to anyone with a sincere heart and a genuine desire to heal.
The qualities the Seventh Ray carries are worth dwelling on for a moment: transmutation (converting negative energy into positive light), freedom (liberation from karmic bondage and old limitation), mercy (divine compassion and forgiveness), and ceremonial magic (the sacred power of ritual and intention). When you work with the Violet Flame, you are working with all of these energies at once, not as separate concepts, but as a unified living force.
“I AM a being of violet fire, I AM the purity God desires.”
This simple decree, given to humanity by Saint Germain, is one of the most potent ways to invoke the flame. We will come back to it in the practice section.
Who Can Practice the Violet Flame?
Everyone. That is the short answer, and I want you to really hear it.
You do not need to be attuned to Reiki. You do not need to be spiritually advanced, or follow any particular tradition, or even be able to visualise clearly. The Violet Flame is not something you earn access to through accomplishment, it responds to intention. An open heart and a genuine desire to heal are the only true prerequisites.
That said, certain experiences tend to make people feel a particularly strong pull toward this practice. Those who have been carrying grief, resentment, or emotional heaviness for a long time often find that the Violet Flame reaches places that talking, journalling, and conventional healing could not. People going through major transitions, the end of a relationship, a career change, a period of illness, a loss, frequently discover that the flame helps them release the old identity and step into what is next with more grace. And those who are already sensitive to energy, who feel the emotions of others or notice the atmosphere of rooms, often find that daily Violet Flame work becomes as essential as bathing, a regular clearing that keeps their field clean and clear.
If you are already a Reiki practitioner, the Violet Flame integrates beautifully with your existing practice. It is not a replacement for Reiki, it is a companion to it. Many of my students use Reiki to channel healing energy and the Violet Flame to transmute what is released in the process. Together, they are remarkably effective.
To begin, you need very little: a quiet space, fifteen uninterrupted minutes, and a willingness to release what no longer serves you. The rest will unfold on its own.
When to Practice Violet Flame Techniques
The beautiful truth about the Violet Flame is that it is always available. There is no wrong time to call on it. That said, two windows in the day tend to produce the deepest results.
Morning practice works because your mind has just returned from sleep, it is quieter, less defended, and more receptive. The energetic noise of the day has not yet accumulated. Starting your morning with even ten minutes of Violet Flame work clears any residue from dreams or the previous day and sets a clean, clear foundation for everything that follows.
Evening practice serves a different purpose. By the end of a day, most of us have absorbed stress, emotional residue from interactions, and the general friction of being human in a busy world. Sitting with the Violet Flame before sleep is like washing off energetic dust, it prevents the accumulation from building up night after night into something heavier. Many practitioners find their sleep improves noticeably once this becomes a regular evening ritual.
If neither of those windows suits your schedule, do not let the perfect be the enemy of the good. A five-minute practice during a lunch break, or even a few minutes sitting quietly in your parked car, is infinitely more valuable than waiting for the ideal conditions that never quite arrive. Consistency matters far more than duration or timing. The Violet Flame responds to a practitioner who shows up regularly and honestly, even imperfectly.
For those who enjoy working with natural cycles, the Violet Flame is beautifully amplified around New and Full Moons, seasonal transitions, and your own birthday month, which many traditions regard as a powerful window for karmic clearing. Sunday has traditionally been associated with Violet Flame focus in Ascended Masters teachings, though again, any day you show up sincerely is the right day.
Why Practice the Violet Flame?
People come to the Violet Flame for many different reasons, and it tends to meet each of them in the place they need most. I want to speak to the most meaningful of these, not as a list of promises, but as genuine possibilities that I have witnessed in students and experienced in my own practice.
Emotional Healing
Anger, resentment, grief, fear, shame, these emotions do not simply dissolve when we decide we are done with them. They settle into the body, into our energetic field, into the patterns of how we respond to the world. The Violet Flame offers something different from simply processing emotions intellectually: it works at the energetic level, transmuting the charge held in old wounds so that they can finally release. Students frequently describe a feeling of unexpected lightness after consistent practice, as though a weight they had become so accustomed to that they stopped noticing it has simply lifted.
Karmic Clearing
Karma, at its simplest, is the accumulated weight of unresolved patterns, choices made, wounds left unhealed, relational debts carried forward. The Violet Flame is one of the most direct tools available for working with karma consciously. It does not erase the lessons karma carries; rather, it transmutes the energetic charge of those patterns so they lose their grip. You may notice certain recurring dynamics in your relationships or circumstances beginning to shift. Old triggers that once consumed you may begin to feel smaller, more manageable, then eventually neutral.
Mental Clarity and Spiritual Acceleration
As energetic density clears, there is often a natural side effect of greater mental clarity, fewer intrusive thoughts, quieter anxiety, more reliable access to intuition. Many practitioners notice their decision-making becomes more grounded, and that they find it easier to hear their own inner wisdom beneath the noise of daily life. For those on a conscious spiritual path, the Violet Flame tends to accelerate growth in ways that feel organic rather than forced, as though you are removing the blocks that were slowing the river, rather than trying harder to push the water uphill.
Service to Others
One of the most beautiful aspects of Violet Flame practice is that you can extend it outward. Once you are working with the flame regularly, you can send it to loved ones, to difficult situations, to places in the world that are carrying pain. This is always done with the qualifier “for their highest good”. You are not imposing your vision of what healing should look like, but offering the energy of transmutation with an open hand. Many of my students find that this outward aspect of the practice becomes one of the most meaningful parts of their spiritual life.

What follows is a complete beginner’s practice. Read through it fully before you begin so that the steps feel familiar rather than effortful. The goal is for the practice to feel natural, not like following instructions, but like remembering something you already know.
Step One
Preparation and Centering
Find a comfortable seated position with your spine reasonably straight, on a chair, a cushion, or a folded blanket, whatever allows you to be both alert and relaxed. Close your eyes. Take three slow, deliberate breaths: breathe in through the nose for a count of four, hold for a moment, exhale through the mouth gently. With each exhale, feel your body releasing whatever tension it has been holding.
Set a clear intention. You do not need an elaborate ceremony for this. A simple, sincere statement in your own words is enough. Something like: “I am here to heal and release. I welcome the Violet Flame and ask that it work in my highest good.” Sincerity matters infinitely more than perfect wording.
Step Two
Invoking the Flame
Bring your attention to your heart centre, the space in the middle of your chest. Imagine a small, warm point of violet light there. It does not need to be vivid or visually spectacular; even a gentle sense or knowing that the light is present is entirely sufficient. The Violet Flame works through intention, not through perfect visualisation.
With each inhale, allow that violet light to grow a little brighter and a little larger. You might speak or think Saint Germain’s decree, repeating it slowly and with feeling:
Repeat this as many times as feels right: three times, nine times, as many as you wish. Let the words settle into you rather than rushing through them. Notice if anything shifts in how your body feels as you repeat them.
Step Three
Expansion and Cleansing
Allow the violet flame to expand outward from your heart, gently, naturally, at its own pace. Let it fill your chest, your torso, your arms and legs, the top of your head. Then let it expand to surround your entire body in a cocoon of violet light, extending about a foot in all directions.
As the flame expands, set the intention that it is transmuting anything within you or around you that is ready to be released: old grief, resentment, fear, karmic patterns, ancestral energy, whatever is ready. You do not need to identify it specifically. You do not need to understand it intellectually. Simply hold the intention and trust the process. The flame knows what to do.
Some people feel warmth, tingling, or a sense of emotional release during this phase. Some feel nothing at all physically and yet notice significant shifts in the days that follow. Both are valid. Neither is more advanced than the other.
Step Four
Completion and Integration
When you feel complete (and you will develop an intuition for this over time), allow the flame to gently return to your heart centre. See it there as a steady, quiet violet light, a reminder that this energy is always accessible to you.
Express genuine gratitude: to Saint Germain, to the Divine, to your own higher self, to whatever holds meaning for you. Gratitude is not a formality here; it is an energetic seal that acknowledges the work that has been done.
Take three slow breaths, feel the weight of your body in your seat, and open your eyes when you are ready. Give yourself a few moments before rushing back into activity. Drink a glass of water, as energy work can be dehydrating in subtle ways, and water supports integration.
Deepening Your Practice Over Time
Once the basic practice feels comfortable, there are many ways to expand it. Decree work, using the specific mantras and affirmations associated with Saint Germain’s teachings, can significantly amplify the flame’s power. Working through the chakras systematically with the Violet Flame, spending a few minutes at each energy centre, is a wonderful way to ensure a thorough clearing. And sending the flame outward to people or situations you are holding in your heart is a practice that, for many, becomes the most meaningful part of the entire discipline.
For anyone interested in Karuna Reiki, the Violet Flame integrates especially beautifully with the Karuna Reiki symbols. The compassion-amplifying energies of Karuna work in natural harmony with the transmuting quality of the flame. And for those new to the idea of sending healing across distance, the Hon Sha Ze Sho Nen symbol, explored in depth here, offers a beautiful foundation for understanding how energy transcends time and space.
Begin with fifteen minutes daily. After two or three weeks of consistent practice, notice what has shifted, not in a grasping, measuring way, but with soft, open attention. The Violet Flame tends to work quietly and cumulatively. You may find that it is not a single dramatic moment that marks the change, but rather a morning when you realise you are simply no longer carrying what you used to carry.

The Violet Flame is not a quick fix, and I want to be honest with you about that. It is a practice. Something you return to. Something that deepens over time and asks you to show up even on days when the magic feels distant. What I can tell you from experience, both my own and my students’, is that the return on that consistency is profound. The patterns that once seemed immovable begin to soften. The heaviness that felt like simply who you are begins to reveal itself as something you were carrying, and something you can put down.
Use this practice with gentleness toward yourself. Trust the process. And know that every time you sit with the Violet Flame, you are doing something genuinely meaningful. Not just for yourself, but in the way that all healing ripples outward, for the world around you.
Reiki Blessings,
Jivita
Frequently Asked Questions
How long does it take to see results from Violet Flame meditation?
This varies considerably between individuals, and I think it is important to be honest about that rather than offer a tidy timeline. Some people feel a genuine shift, a lightness and settling, after their very first session. Others notice changes more gradually, in the texture of their days and the easing of patterns over weeks and months. What I consistently observe is that emotional shifts tend to appear first: a little less reactivity here, a little more spaciousness there. Life circumstances often begin to shift afterward, almost as a downstream effect of the inner work. Consistent daily practice, even for short periods, tends to produce noticeable results within two to four weeks. Deeper transformations, the ones that reshape long-standing patterns, continue to unfold over months and years.
Can I practice the Violet Flame if I follow a different religion?
Yes, fully and without compromise to your faith. The Violet Flame’s core qualities, including purification, compassion, freedom, and healing, are present across virtually every spiritual tradition. Many of my students are practicing Christians, Hindus, Buddhists, and followers of other paths who have found the Violet Flame deepens rather than conflicts with their existing beliefs. If you have a specific concern, adapt the invocation language to align with your tradition. What matters is the sincerity of the intention, not the precise form of the words.
What if I cannot visualise the violet colour clearly?
This is one of the most common concerns beginners bring to me, and I want to address it directly: clear visual imagery is not required for the Violet Flame to work. The flame works through intention and energy, not through the vividness of your mind’s eye. Many people who describe themselves as non-visual practitioners, those who feel the energy as warmth or tingling, or simply hold a quiet knowing of its presence without seeing anything, experience results that are every bit as profound as those who see the flame in full colour. Trust your own way of perceiving. Do not compare your inner experience to anyone else’s description.
Is it safe to practice every day?
Yes, daily practice is not only safe but encouraged. The Violet Flame is inherently self-regulating. It works with your system’s readiness rather than forcing anything. Beginners may want to start with shorter sessions of five to ten minutes and allow the duration to grow naturally. Occasionally, consistent practice can stir up emotional material as it surfaces for release: old grief, unexpected tears, a temporary increase in vivid dreams. This is normal and is generally a sign the work is progressing. If you ever feel overwhelmed, simply reduce the session length and give yourself extra rest and water. Trust your own body’s signals.
Can I send Violet Flame energy to others?
Yes, and this is one of the most beautiful aspects of the practice. The key guideline is simple: always send with love, and always with the intention “for their highest good”, never with a specific agenda about what the healing should look like or what outcome it should produce. You are offering transmutation energy with an open hand, not imposing your vision of what another person needs. This approach honours their free will and their own soul’s wisdom about what healing is right for them. Family members, dear friends, difficult relationships, even global situations: all of these can be held in the Violet Flame with sincerity and genuine effect.
