Reiki I –  is the base or foundation of the Spiritual Healing Energy – Reiki.  Reiki I is the introduction of this healing energy, Reiki.  Reiki I explain in detail how to apply Reiki in person or hands-on Reiki.  Reiki I student has to practice these 26 Reiki Points for continuous 21 days.

After Reiki I attunement, one is able to give Reiki to self, others, animals, plants, Reiki food, Water, medicines, and n number of things, with hands-on Reiki.  One is able to channel the Reiki Energy just by placing the palms on or above the patient’s body.

So, very rightly it is called Reiki Hands.  One does not need any other tool to heal others.

Why treat these 26 points?

Every body part is related to some emotion, and over the years there may be an energy block in these parts.  Initially, by giving Reiki to these 26 points, we try to clear all the major Chakras, emotional blockages if any, and at the same time, related body parts.

Why treat for 21 days?  It is a Reiki Detox!

When you are attuned to Reiki I, 21 days of continual practice on these 26 points is a must.  Why?  This is the Cleansing Period, which you must not miss after your attunement.

21 days cleansing period / Reiki Detox –  is for 7 Chakras.

We have seven Chakras, each chakra takes 3 days for cleansing.

Root Chakra / Mooladhar Chakra: Day 1, 8, 15

Sacral / Swadhisthan Chakra: Day 2, 9,16.

Solar Plexus / Manipur Chakra: Day 3, 10, 17.

Heart / Anahata Chakra : Day 4, 11, 18.

Throat / Visshudhi Chakra : Day 5, 12, 19.

Third Eye / Agnya Chakra: Day 6, 13, 20.

Crown / Sahastrar Chakra : Day 7, 14,21.

Some may feel Cleansing Syndromes, but it cleanses your system and make you more balanced energetically.

How cool is that?  When we heal our physical body at the same time we are treating our Chakra System and the emotions as well.

Every body part is related to a particular emotion.  When we give Reiki to a particular body part, always remember that we are also giving healing to the emotion related to the body part.  When you give Reiki from this perspective, it will have a very profound impact.

Our body has seven major chakras with many other minor chakras.  While treating Chakras, except Crown and Root Chakra, all the other Chakras have openings on both sides- front and back of the body.  so it is very important to treat both, the front and back chakras also.

    • Hi Inyene, exercise has a great effect on our physical, mental level compare to the emotional level. Exercise do no good to your Spiritual health. Reiki mainly is a Spiritual Healing Energy.
Inyene, it’s my personal opinion, you may differ and You can always have your own views.

  3. Hello i just want to ask about the most suitable time to practice Reiki I. Plus can we start practicing by placing hands on th 7 chakras only at first to shorten the time ? Thanks

    Reply
    • Nagham, it’s always better to practice Reiki at a particular time, if your schedule permits. If you have a busy schedule, feel free to practice it whenever you get enough time.
Reiki I, needs a lot of practice since the hand placements have to practice properly, I will not suggest you practice only on Chakras. We have many minor and major chakras in our body, and all needs to be cleansed thoroughly, to flow Reiki energy properly.
You must have heard the cases, where many students complain that they did not feel Reiki Energy flowing through their palms, it just needs more practice.
Another reason, one must practice it religiously, is that new vibrational upliftment after First Attunement needs to be absorbed by your system.
This daily practice after your first attunement cleanses your entire system, not only on the physical but also on the mental and emotional level. And that’s why sometimes this detoxification results in temporary physical symptoms.
So hope you will practice your daily 21-day routine religiously, to become more profound Reiki Practitioner!

      Wish you all the best:)

    • Hey Rohan,
Great to hear that you completed your 21 day ritual after your first Reiki Attunement. You have to follow this procedure as a cleansing procedure after your attunment, to detox yourself. Thus helping yourself to absorb the new higher frequencies.
After 21 days, feel free to adjust the Reiki practice session according to your schedule. It’s perfectly ok to split the Reiki points according to your convenience.
Just make it sure to practice regularly:)

    • Somdatta,

Thanks for asking this question. You need to practice 26 Reiki points in First Level Reiki, once you attuned and practiced for 21 days, you need not need to practice all 21 points.

After that, you practice on seven chakras only.

    • Great to know you Alenka, and since you are a Reiki Practitioner, you must have experienced the benefits of Reiki.

26 Reiki Points- is a guide for beginner Reiki Practitioner, who are just attuned, and need to know why they should practice daily.  Most of the times, after attunement, new attuned find it very boring to self reiki or practice on all reiki points, as it takes a lot of energy and time.

      Why You Must Self Reiki?

So it is very important to them, to know the importance of Self-Reiki and it will benefit them to practice it regularly and establish them as a good Reiki Healer.

  6. I have done reiki few years ago . I practised it for few months after my attunement. Reiki is the most simple way to cleanse your chakras . When I used to practise reiki, I used to feel a lot of energy flowing through my palms and soles of my feet!  I didn’t understand as much about reiki but after reading your post, lot of things are much more clearer now! Great pictures too!

  7. This is amazing! I’m going to try this out on myself, I need a lift in terms of energy level! May I know what it means by experiencing cleansing syndromes? Are they the same as detox symptoms? Like flu-like symptoms, headaches, lethargy, that kind of thing? I tend to experience such detox symptoms when I embark on something towards a healthier lifestyle.

    Reply
    • Hey Joo,

You can practice self-reiki, only if you are attuned to Reiki.  Cleansing Syndrome is a state after your first attunement,  it is mandatory to practice self-Reiki on oneself, to cleanse it.  Over a time period, we tend to accumulate toxins in our aura.

When you practice self-reiki for 21 days, your body throws out these toxins in form of cold, headache, diarrhea and some other physical symptoms.

These period of time is known as Cleansing Syndrome, a process where body cleanses so that Reiki energy flows though you easily.

  8. Hi, Shubhangi. Thank you for explaining Reiki. I do meditation which I enjoy. I didn’t until now understand Chakras or what Reiki Hands was all about. I understand a little more, I did not know there is a Self Healing Reiki. Maybe I will try this for myself. Twenty six is a lot of points to remember, perhaps I could just focus on the seven major Chakras?

    • Hey Paul,

Have you attuned to Reiki, if yes, then it is mandatory to practice Reiki on oneself(self-Reiki), for first 21 days, after initial 21 days, you need to practice on chakra system.

Reiki is a spiritual healing energy, basically to heal oneself, unless you heal yourself, you can’t heal others.  And that is what self Reiki is all about.

That’s the one major reason, after your first attunement, it is mandatory to practice Reiki on oneself for 21 days, only after that you can heal others.

26 points covers all our body parts and major and  some subtle chakras, which need to be cleansed and balanced, and it’s mandatory only for first 21 days.

You can practice on chakras, if you are comfortable with chakra healing, nothing wrong with it, chakras cover all endocrine glands.

Read Here on Chakras and Endocrine System https://reikiamazes.com/chakra

If you are not attuned, then take a reiki session from a Reiki Practitioner.

      Regards.

  9. Hi Shubhangi,

    Thank you for reminding me.

I had a Reiki healing some years ago. The first time I had come across this form of healing.

I had just split up with a partner and was in a bad emotional state.

A very pregnant Reiki healer gave me 30 minutes of absolute peace. It was the most powerful healing I have ever experienced.

I was unable to talk to her afterwards because the next client was waiting. I just had time to say thank-you.

The healing helped to put everything into perspective and no longer seemed to threaten me.

I feel I must investigate more and will read your other articles on Reiki.

    Than you for posting this.

        • Hey Ezgi,
Great to know that you are practicing Reiki in your life. Reiki detox, i.e. 21 days after your first attunement, is the most important period, as you are attuned to Reiki, your body needs to attune to these new vibrations.
People from all walks of life, get attuned to Reiki, irrespective of their cast and creed. We all have different karma baggage with us, Reiki cleanses all of our existence and all layers of auras. So in some cases, Reiki attunement can produce a detox effect i.e some may feel nausea, cold, diarrhea and other symptoms.
When we give Reiki in this detox period, we help our bodies to be in a balanced state.
No harm if you want to practice it for 21 days, it will definitely help you to strengthen your aura, Reiki practice and intuition.

Is the image for hand position #22 reversed? Should the left arm be over the left shoulder instead, to cover the heart?

  11. Hi there, love the explanation. I just finished Reiki lesson plus attunement. I do try to practice everyday, however few days I was not able to focus, or able to do each point for 3mins instead I did 1 or 2min each point. Due to certain situations im not able to stay focused during the healer. I start off very well but after 3/4 points get bored, irritated and random thoughts start to come.
I don’t feel relaxed because I can’t stay still for so long. I’m still trying. Some days I’m able to get through and other days I feel as pressure rather than being happy doing it. I’m not sure if it’s due to the time length. Please help and suggest how to concentrate and complete 21 days 3mins without being irritated, unfocused and unmotivated? I always had passion to learn and apply Reiki I’m my life. Thank you

  12. Hi! What are the implications of not completing the 21 day self treatment after receiving the attunements? I got all three levels back to back in 2015 and I remember there being a lot of holes in my treatment. I have just started over with the 26 points… I still feel energy and heal myself all the time. I would appreciate your opinion. Thank you!

  15. Reiki is such a great way of practising natural healing and addressing all the chakras in your body, to look at emotional wellness as well as well as physical wellness.

This is a fascinating post with the 26 Reiki points for self-treatment, something that I didn’t realise was possible. I have Hashimoto’s Disease, so my thyroid doesn’t work. From the 26 Reiki points it looks as if there are 2 ways I can treat myself, in the front and the back. So do I massage the areas as indicated in the pictures, or is it more complex than that? Thank you.

    • Thanks Line, I admire that you addressed Reiki as a natural healing practice that takes care of you physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually

As a Reiki practitioner, I know that you will be benefitted from practicing Reiki, if you are attuned to Reiki, well and good, but if not, take the help of a trained Reiki practitioner. You do not message in Reiki, you just place your hands very lightly on the affected body part.

    • Bobbie, after 21 days, you continue to practice self Reiki and offer Reiki to your friends and family. The more you practice, more the Reiki flow will be. and if you are guided to, you can go for Reiki II.
